Josie's abalone farm was the pride of the town, and folks would come from miles around just to witness the sleek clockwork-like organization that made her operation run so smoothly. Josie came from a long line of maritime entrepreneurs, so it was only natural that after a few years of fancy schooling up at that oceanology college she would come home and put her education to work starting up an abalone farm.
A few folks were jealous of Josie, some even said it wasn't even right for a woman to run an abalone farm, maybe a sheep farm, but not an abalone farm. "Stick to wearin' jewelry and writin' poetry!" They would say, grumbling under their breath as she road by in her turbo-diesel super-duty, blasting Linda Ronstadt. One day a man came to town bragging that he was going to have Josie and her abalone farm, put her in her place and teach her how to act like a good woman. Within five minutes of setting foot onto the farm, Josie shot him dead. Nobody seemed to mind particularly. Some of the boys at the dock took him apart with axes and used him for bait on the morning troll.
